Hydrology, Hydraulics, & Fluids
Leveraging over 130 years of fluid dynamics expertise.
Industry-renowned analysis, design, and modeling to solve a range of flow-related problems.
The Hydrology, Hydraulics, and Fluid Mechanics (HHF) practice is comprised of a diverse group of expert engineers, scientists, biologists, and technicians solving complex challenges involving water, air, and other fluid flows in natural and industrial settings. Our expertise spans from the large-scale environmental flows of rivers, floodplains, and estuaries to fine-scale turbulent mixing and heat exchange in nuclear reactors.
Our capabilities include surface and groundwater hydrologic modeling, physical and numerical modeling of water and other fluids, geomorphic and sediment transport analyses, and the design and assessment of civil infrastructure, including pump stations, spillways, and water diversions. We also provide fish passage engineering, hydropower relicensing support and turbine testing, flow meter calibration, industrial emissions control, process flow and ventilation engineering, and near full-scale component testing for the nuclear industry. Our expertise continues to evolve in areas such as coastal and climate resilience. Through these capabilities, we support clients in a broad range of market sectors, including energy, transportation, government, and defense.
Verdantas’ HHF practice is supported by extensive laboratory and testing capabilities, including North America’s oldest continuously operating hydraulics lab. Building on the expertise of Alden Research Laboratory and Clemson Engineering Hydraulics, now part of Verdantas, our team combines physical modeling, testing, and validation with computational modeling and field studies. For clients, this means an approach tailored to the specific needs of each project, with the experience and resources to solve complex flow-related challenges.
With more than a century of experience and unmatched laboratory resources, we continue to advance how complex engineering and environmental challenges related to flow are understood and solved. The results is stronger infrastructure, healthier natural systems, and greater resilience for the future.
